Ski Racing Club...

Also the Canada WInter Games development team was named - out of 29 spots, CMRC has 16!

PRESS RELEASE:

SUSSEX - This past weekend over 160 athletes from Atlantic Canada gathered at Poley Mtn in Waterford, near Sussex for the final race weekend of the Atlantic Cup series. It was also the weekend for NB Alpine to name their NB Cup winners and announce the development team for the Canada Winter Games alpine event along with coaches and staff for the games.

For the NB Cup, in the K1 (11-12 yr olds) women, Julie Oullette from Mont Farlagne took top honours, Poley Mtn’s Evynn Topolonski was second and Marissa Arseneau also of Mt Farlagne was third.

On the men’s side for K1, top honours for NB Cup went to Micheal Leger of Crabbe Mtn, while in second place was Jonathan Verret of Mt Farlagne and in third, also from Crabbe Leland Morehouse.

Leila Beaudoin of Mt Farlagne took home top NB Cup spot for the K2 women (13-14 yr olds); teammate Gabrielle Ouellette was seond while Michelle Levesque of Crabbe placed third.

For K2 men, Andrew McLean of Poley Mtn was first, team mate Neil Symington was second and Willem Slauenwhite of PEI rounded out the top three.

It was a Crabbe Mtn sweep for the J1 (15-16 year olds) women’s category, Cathleen Trafton took first, Bess Teague was second and in third place, Lillie Coolen.

On the men’s side of J1 Crabbe Mtn’s Lincoln Esau and Henrik Tonning placed first and third respectively, with PEI’s Jackson Slauenwhite taking second place.

For the women’s J2 (16-17 yr olds) Nicola McLeod of PEI was first.

It was Sebastien Pacey-Smith of Crabbe Mtn taking top honours for the NB Cup men’s J2 category, team mate Phillip Soicher was second and Mike Byrne of Poley Mtn was third.

For the Atlantic Cup series, Crabbe Mtn Race Club took top team honours for the season. In individual categories, K1 women, Julie Ouellette of Mt Farlagne was first, team mate Marisssa Arseneau was second and Poley Mtn’s Evynn Topolinski was third.

For the K1 men, top honours went to Micheal Leger of Crabbe Mtn, while in second place was Jonathan Verret of Mt Farlagne and in third, also from Crabbe Leland Morehouse.

For the J1 women, Sarah Byrne of Wentworth was first, while Crabbe Mtn rounded out the top three with Cathleen Trafton in second and Bess Teague in third.

It was Jackson Slauenwhite of PEI with first place for the J1 men, Lincoln Esau of Crabbe was second and Martock’s Mark Gaudry was third.

For the J2 women, Martock’s Cheyenne Coates and Rebecca Gaudry took first and second respectively, and Jessie Byrne of Wentworth placed third. For the men J2, Jordan Gibson of Martock was first, Tim Robinson of Wentworth was second and Crabbe Mtn’s Phillip Soicher placed third.

Also this past weekend, NB Alpine named its development team for the Canada Winter Games 2011. Coach for the team is Mike Clarke, John Teague is wax technician and team manger is Stephanie Dodge. The athletes were named from the top 10 in the K2, J1 and J2 age categories with exceptions given to injured athletes and athletes attending alpine ski academies out of province. There were also a handful of K1 racers who were invited to the team. The final team of five women and men with one alternate each will be decided in Dec 2010 or Jan 2011 at a derby planned for Crabbe Mtn.

The team will be participating in various events during the summer and fall months to promote team building as well as promoting fitness and readiness for the games.
